Chapter 28 Handicraft Geng
Luo Xin had already joined the employee list, and the task of finding electrical talent for the company was thus completed.
The newly emerged panel was the task reward.
But what use was this thing, exactly?
Zhang Ye was somewhat puzzled.
He scrutinized the system page at that moment, apart from two employee lists displayed side by side, all that remained was the task page that had been there from the beginning.
The main task was very simple, four words: "Grow and Strengthen, Recreate Splendor!"
There were only two branch tasks.
"Find more talent markets, task reward: Employee limit +10."
This clearly meant he needed to get out more.
Because the so-called talent markets seemed to be those places where the survivors congregated.
Commonly known as refuges.
As for the other task, it took Zhang Ye by surprise.
"Find more talents from different fields to join the company."
"Task reward: Unknown."
This task had popped up after Luo Xin joined the company, but there was no actual guidance, just a general area indicated.
Even the reward was kept hidden just like yesterday's task.
Obviously, it would be unlocked only after completion.
"Isn't this just a scam?"
"The whole Sanjiang City?"
"Where am I supposed to recruit from with a population of over eight hundred thousand!"
Zhang Ye, looking at the area indicated in the brackets of the task, couldn't help but grumble inwardly.
At least reveal the reward, even if I'm just a little donkey, there should be a carrot hanging in front of me, right?
He sighed for a while and then his gaze returned to the newly appeared panel.
Everyone is dead.
Yet there's a list of their previous occupations.
Could it really be that these zombies could continue with their former jobs?
A flash of insight suddenly darted through Zhang Ye's eyes, and he quickly turned his head to look at the twelve "Protectors" behind him.
Truck driver.
Construction worker.
Firefighter.
And a fitness coach?
The more he looked, the more excited he became, feeling as if something was gradually emerging in his mind.
These twelve zombies were all carefully selected, almost all of them over one meter eighty in height, and there were none with missing limbs or suffering from malnutrition.
Now, their only job was to protect Zhang Ye's safety.
Commonly called bodyguards.
But that was just a job title he had assigned them.
At the end of the day, these beings that seemed no different from human bodyguards were still zombies.
But regarding the job of a bodyguard, they did far better than the average zombie.
Why?
Was it simply because I had set their positions, the system then endowed them with these abilities?
Zhang Ye initially thought so.
But now, it seemed it was not just because of their job titles.
These zombies appeared to be the same.
But they weren't.
When Zhang Ye added them to the employee list, they became employees with different initial attributes, like blank slates.
Some were stronger.
Some were more agile.
Some were smarter, mainly manifested in their ability to understand commands.
The role of the company positions was to add specific bonuses on top of these blank slate zombie employees' base attributes, differentiating them into employees with varied abilities.
That's why the twelve Protectors were more outstanding.
The jobs they had before their death were related to physical strength.
Naturally, they could do well as bodyguards.
Zhang Ye, thinking thus far, could no longer contain his excitement.
Whether his guess was right or wrong, practice would tell!
"That one!"
"Qing Qing, go!"
Liu Qingqing, wearing a cool off-shoulder top and chugging a bottle of cola, heard the order and wiped her mouth right away:
"Ah, finally, it's my turn to take action!"
"Everyone, follow me!"
She swung her fair arm.
The motley crew behind her immediately charged out.
The target loitering on the roadside was quickly brought down.
Half a minute later, a corpse was thrown in front of Zhang Ye.
The neck had already been snapped.
The limbs were twisted together like pretzels.
Zhang Ye's face darkened, realizing that his guess had indeed been correct.
The ordinary staff members hadn't been gentle or delicate at all.
There was some cooperation, but not much.
To have them catch a zombie, they simply swarmed over, each kicking and stomping until they had turned the target into a quadriplegic.
Liu Qingqing looked embarrassed and dared not look at him.
"Never mind, I'll do it myself."
Zhang Ye touched her little face, a thought crossing his mind, and immediately four zombies stepped forward from behind him, heads held high and chests out, moving toward the next target.
They moved with impressive speed.
Upon approaching the target, they quickly split into two groups.
One group lifted arms.
The other lifted legs.
In less than twenty seconds, they carried the zombie, described as a maintenance worker in the dossier, up to Zhang Ye just like they had carried Luo Xin the day before.
Luo Xin watched curiously from the side.
She really wanted to see how Zhang Ye turned zombies into employees.
The entire process was incredibly simple.
Zhang Ye just reached out and touched the struggling zombie, and it immediately calmed down, then shakily got up from the ground.
"Handy Geng?"
He looked at the name in the description and felt something was off.
All the other zombies had full names.
Why did this one have a nickname?
But it probably didn't matter.
Zhang Ye's thoughts swiftly shifted, and he immediately assigned it to the Energy Department.
Sure enough.
The occupation of Handy Geng immediately changed.
[Zombie Handy Geng.]
[Position: Energy Department—]
"Beast of burden?"
Zhang Ye couldn't help but burst out laughing at the two characters that followed.
But before he could delve into his amusement, a new system prompt appeared.
[Employee detected as a special talent.]
[Would you like to set a senior position for them?]
There was a further explanation below.
[Senior Position: Retains most of the employee's pre-death skills.]
[Currently available senior employees: one.]
So it was a limited edition?
Zhang Ye raised an eyebrow and immediately made his choice.
[Yes.]
[Di—]
[Senior position setting complete.]
With a crisp sound, Zombie Handy Geng's listed position immediately changed.
Zhang Ye fixed his eyes on it, and was surprised to see:
Senior engineer?
Good grief, is that something a zombie could do?
In his memory, an engineer wasn't a job someone could do with just brawn.
And the key question was,
What could he actually do?
The villa area in the evening was still dim.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
In the spacious yard, a figure was adeptly twisting wires together.
Two generators were quickly assembled.
"Circuit testing complete."
Luo Xin clapped her hands, her eyes showing a trace of nervousness as she looked at the circuit breaker box on the wall.
Could this really work?
She unconsciously looked back at the zombie that was pulling the wires, and involuntarily swallowed.
Good Lord.
Was this guy truly a zombie?
The sight of screwdrivers, wrenches, and pliers excited him as if he were on an aphrodisiac.
All the wiring in the yard had been done by him.
She, a bright graduate from Sanjiang University, had seemingly only one task—switching the circuit breaker.
This feeling was just too—
Comfortable!
Was this the feeling of leadership?
As Luo Xin was mulling this over, a voice suddenly sounded in her head.
"Switch it on."
