Chapter 75 The TAG game
However, if that beautiful elf were serving customers in real life, I bet there are people who would pay ten times the price.
It's kind of fun to make a real elf (even if it's just a game) wear a cheap imitation outfit.
Liora, satisfied, hugged the photo tightly and trotted down the hallway.
Liora walked down the center.
NPCs who recognized her moved to the sides, almost as if they were fleeing. It's a sight you often see in real life, too—people making way for celebrities or high-ranking members of the social hierarchy.
Well, in Liora's case, it's less about being part of a "social hierarchy" and more like being part of a "curse" or something.
She's just being avoided.
Let's continue enjoying the cultural festival. The next place Liora headed was the classroom of the Black Class.
It was a spacious area, resembling a gymnasium more than a classroom. The excessively large school was certainly being put to full use here.
Inside, people dressed in black robes were running around in panic.
"Welcome! This is one of the first-year Black Class's attractions: the Grand Tag Tournament! ...Oh, wait, you're from Black Class."
The one who suddenly appeared and gave this introduction was a beastman. It was the first time they had spoken. He seemed to be a dog-type beastman, probably around 20 years old. He had dog ears, but they didn't quite match his large and muscular body.
"I'm Gomez! I'm in charge of the reception here. Are you here to play, miss?"
"No, I was called."
Strictly speaking, Liora belonged to the first-year Black Class. In other words, this was her place.
This event allowed each class to either open up a store or not, depending on their choice. While participation wasn't mandatory, it was more fun to join in. Plus, the rewards would likely be better.
It was a relatively free event. Many just walked around looking at the displays, while some people ran individual stalls or exhibited their own works, even outside their class.
The players seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Some NPCs had expressions like, "Even though the First Field is in such a mess..."
"I'm—"
Liora placed her photo in the item box and pointed at her large scythe.
"I'm Liora, the Apostle of God."
"Oh! You're Liora! The ace of our class!"
The attraction for this class was "tag." You pay a participation fee, and if you catch the demon within the time limit, you get a prize. Only one demon can be caught. Different demons give different points, so catching a weak one means you'll lose out on rewards.
You're free to use skills and arts.
However, causing any damage is considered a foul, and the entire Black Class will gang up on violators.
Liora donned the black robe she was handed.
The moment she stepped into the classroom, the atmosphere completely changed. Gomez, standing at the reception, excitedly shouted out.
"The main event has arrived! It's Liora, the Grim Reaper Girl! If you catch her, you'll get the best reward! Capture points: 10!"
"10!? No way. Even those with speed-specialized skills only had 8 points!"
The NPCs looked shaken.
It was news to me as well. While Liora is strong and fast, she doesn't compare to those with speed-specialized skills.
Her level isn't maxed yet either.
This seems like a strategy to attract more customers.
With the infamous Liora making an appearance and offering high points, it was bound to bring in a crowd. Sure enough, NPCs began gathering in the classroom, probably after seeing posts on the bulletin board.
"Hey, that girl is joining."
"She's just a kid, can't be that strong."
"My spirit seems obsessed with her. Weird to like such a child."
"No, this is bad. I can feel it. She's got a presence that tells me I'm in danger. I'm outta here."
"That girl is so cute!"
Liora began applying various buffs to herself.
There were speed buffs from Light Magic, a ritual dance from Kagura Arts, and even my own agility boost.
"Liora, let's go with [Berserk] as well."
"Yes... Understood."
[Berserk] is a major buffing skill. The downside is that arts can't be used while it's active, but the speed boost is phenomenal. The force with which she kicks the ground increases, and so does her speed.
Let's get started.
▽
Around a dozen burly men were desperately chasing a single little girl.
"Catch her! It's just a kid!"
"She's too fast! What the heck is this!?"
"She's too skilled."
"I take back what I said about the 100,000 entry fee being too much! This is worth every penny!"
Liora's total scythe-related skills far exceed a hundred. Her techniques when wielding a scythe are beyond human comprehension.
Now, coupled with massive buffs, her physical abilities match her skill.
Five fighters lunged at her simultaneously, but Liora gracefully dodged and slipped past them in an instant. If this were a real fight, she would have cut their heads off with her scythe as they passed.
Additionally, before activating [Berserk], she had used [Yesod's Wing].
Liora, who can even see the future, is—
"I've caught her! I even used my unique skill—wait, what!?"
Did she teleport?
A man suddenly appeared behind Liora, trying to grab her, but ended up hugging thin air. She was no longer there, now darting around the classroom in all directions.
Even without arts or my support, she could perform a double jump thanks to the effects of her boots.
The Grim Reaper Girl bounced around everywhere.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Her face expressionless, almost chilling.
While Liora didn't even break a sweat, the men chasing her were so overheated that steam rose from their bodies.
Honestly, Liora seems to be better at tag than I initially thought. She saw through the traps, sliced through the ropes thrown at her with her scythe, and even nullified binding spells with [Magic Severing Blade].
A faint [Dark Aura] surrounded her.
It didn't have any particular effect, but the ominous presence concealed her body from view.
I had been worried about status effects, but the resistance buff from [Hod's Wing] was useful.
"There's no time left! This is my last shot! Taste my pride!"
The man who had teleported earlier removed a belt from his waist. It was a long rope. After muttering something, he swung it overhead.
"Binding Art [Fangs of Restraint]!"
The rope whipped through the air at incredible speed. It was more of an attack art than a binding skill.
The speed of the rope strikes was blinding, leaving behind a complex, net-like afterimage.
This might be an unavoidable move.
Even the audience began booing the man, shouting, "That's unfair!"
But only Liora and the man wore different expressions.
"I saw everything."
"Wha—! You can't be serious!"
The crowd had already resigned themselves to Liora's defeat.
But Liora remained calm, casually dodging the strikes with simple jumps. In an instant, the unfair binding attack had turned into nothing more than a game of jump rope.
Even the man who had been using the art was left speechless.
He dropped the rope with a thud.
"That's it! Time's up!"
Liora, having completely escaped, returned without a single drop of sweat.
The NPCs were in an uproar.
Since they didn't know about the effects of [Yesod's Wing], they couldn't comprehend how Liora was moving like that. With her future sight and agility, it seems she easily avoided being caught.
Due to cooldown times, she won't be able to do this again today.
Although, if I use [Tete's Offering Finger], I could cancel the cooldown and have her do it again. But that would be a waste.
It seems there were some strong participants.
The man with the teleportation skill was a tricky opponent. His agility was higher than Liora's, even with her buffs, and he made good use of movement arts.
He must have been a character specialized in "capturing."
However, neither his traps nor ropes could overcome Liora's future vision.
As the NPCs buzzed around, Gomez came over, smiling brightly.
"You're amazing, miss. We made a lot of money."
"Really? I only played once." Your journey continues on empire
"They were betting on it. Even though this is a large, enclosed space, no one thought a little girl could escape from people using [Entangling Threads], [Void Step], or [Speed Demon]."
"?"
"You were incredible, that's what I'm saying. We got plenty of visitors. Many of the people who came to see you will stick around and watch the other attractions, hoping to win their bets back! We're rolling in it! To be honest, we were prepared to lose money just to draw in customers, but you actually won it for us!"
"I'm strong."
"After watching those crazy moves of yours, no one's going to feel down. You're the best."
It turns out this class was more like a gambling den than a casual tag-playing attraction. It was more along the lines of horse racing or a colosseum.
The total revenue contributes to event points.
We might have contributed more to the event than expected. After declaring she'd participate once more tomorrow, Liora left the Black Class.
Gomez handed over a good amount of money as a participation fee. Apparently, Gomez runs a "gambling den" outside of the event too.
Liora, having made a good impression, received a participation ticket.
Gambling seems like it could be fun.
After all, it's not a game if you don't enjoy it. With the intent of fully enjoying the cultural festival, we headed to the real gymnasium.
It seems they're putting on a play there.
