Chapter 167

C167 – A Girl Who Loved to Laugh

Zhang Jinsong, following Ye Hao’s instructions, welcomed the Xiao family into Ye Hao’s office.

“Now, you may present those items,” Ye Hao’s voice echoed in the office.

Xiao Luori promptly brought out the first brocade box.

“Senior, this is a thousand-year-old ginseng,” Xiao Luori said, pointing to the ginseng secured with a red string inside the brocade box.

“That red string could never contain a thousand-year-old ginseng,” Ye Hao remarked calmly.

Xiao Luori was taken aback, thinking to himself, “I must have purchased a counterfeit.”

“This is merely a four-hundred-year-old ginseng. Had it been a thousand years old, it would have turned into a spirit by now. Ordinary people wouldn’t stand a chance of capturing it.”

“Still, this ginseng isn’t too shabby.” After Ye Hao finished speaking, Xiao Luori breathed a sigh of relief.

He reassured himself, “At least Ye Hao isn’t holding me responsible.”

Ye Hao’s excitement was palpable when Xiao Luori opened the second brocade box.

Inside lay an ancient sword!

Ye Hao sensed a subtle spiritual energy emanating from the sword.

It was a Spirit Sword.

“This ancient sword was discovered by my ancestors, but it has remained unused,” Xiao Luori explained with a sigh.

Xiao Luori was convinced it was a divine weapon, yet its lack of use rendered it effectively worthless.

“What’s in the third brocade box?” Ye Hao inquired, shifting his attention away from the ancient sword and towards the next item.

Upon opening the third brocade box, Ye Hao’s expression turned to one of disappointment.

Xiao Luori, with a sense of regret, disclosed, “The third brocade box holds fifty spirit stones.”

Even for a House of Martial Arts, spirit stones were a scarce resource.

Xiao Luori had saved this brocade box for last, believing its contents to be of great value.

What he hadn’t anticipated was that Ye Hao possessed over a thousand spirit stones, rendering these fifty rather insignificant.

”Is this everything?” Ye Hao asked, his tone detached.

A sense of dread filled Xiao Luori as he thought, “I’ve already offered so many treasures, yet he’s still not content.”

Nonetheless, Xiao Luori dared not leave Ye Hao’s question unanswered.

“The Xiao family will compensate the Immortals Retreat with one billion yuan for the losses incurred,” someone announced.

“Please transfer the funds to the Immortals Retreat’s account.”

“Understood.”

“I’ll hold off on addressing the Xiao family’s actions for now. Let’s discuss your grandson instead,” Ye Hao’s voice echoed through the venue.

Xiao Luori’s face paled.

The fact that Ye Hao’s voice filled the room signaled his intent to assert his authority.

In that instant, Xiao Guang let out a wail as his arm was obliterated. Ye Hao declared, “That is the cost of crossing the Immortals Retreat.”

“Archon, I am deeply grateful,” Xiao Luori said, managing to maintain a respectful demeanor despite his seething anger.

“You may leave,” Ye Hao stated coolly.

With a gesture from Xiao Luori, the Xiao family members carried away the grievously wounded Xiao Guang and the others.

“Let’s proceed.”

Zhang Jinsong approached the podium with a smile and addressed the crowd, “We’ve had a slight interruption. I trust it hasn’t dampened your spirits. Now, we shall move on to the auction of the third panacea.”

The audience’s focus shifted to the three panaceas on offer.

“One billion,” Lin Tu bid decisively.

“One billion one hundred million,” Zhou Wanqing countered immediately, representing the Zhou family.

”Two billion,” came a bid from an unassuming middle-aged man who had just entered the hall.

Ye Hao regarded the newcomer with a mix of surprise and curiosity.

“Faang Qiming.”

“He’s the current head of the Faang family.”

“What brings him here?”

Faang Qiming’s presence threw the bidding war between the Lin and Zhou families into disarray.

With Faang Qiming there in person, any further bids would be seen as a slight to the Faang family.

Listening to the murmurs of the crowd, Ye Hao learned of Faang Qiming’s identity. Yet, it was of no consequence to him.

Ye Hao was utterly indifferent to the Faang family patriarch.

The hesitation of the Lin and Zhou families to continue bidding meant that other families were even less inclined to challenge.

“From this point forward, members of the Faang family are forbidden from entering my Immortals Retreat,” Ye Hao announced, his voice tinged with irritation. “Your presence has intimidated the guests from bidding on my panacea.”

Faang Qiming was taken aback.

He hadn’t anticipated that his actions would upset Ye Hao.

Hastily, Faang Qiming said, “Archon, please don’t be upset. I am willing to offer an additional billion yuan to purchase the panacea.”

“There’s no need. Money is not an issue for me,” Ye Hao replied coolly. “And remember what I’ve told you.”

“Archon, my visit isn’t solely for the panacea; I also have something to inform you about.”

“What might that be?”

“It’s not suitable to discuss it here.”

“Then wait for me in my office.”

“Understood.” Faang Qiming was acutely aware of Ye Hao’s standing. The Faang family dared not provoke him.

Indeed, the Three Sects and Six Factions of the Cultivation Realm paid no heed to secular figures of power like them.

Take the Supernatural Bureau, for example; since its inception, there have been very few members nationwide.

Moreover, the Supernatural Bureau’s relationship with the government is purely cooperative. In essence, the government has no authority over the Bureau.

With Faang Qiming’s departure, Ye Hao’s voice once again filled the venue.

“We have another event now: a giveaway of panaceas.” Zhang Jinsong gestured for the attendants to distribute paper and pens.

Zhou Wanqing wrote down her name.

“Will I be selected?”

“You will,” Ye Hao assured her with a smile.

“Are you suggesting that girls who smile often are lucky?”

“You’re quite perceptive.”

Once the attendants had gathered the slips of paper and placed them into the box, Zhang Jinsong gave the box a purposeful shake.

Reaching into the transparent box, a slip of paper clung to Zhang Jinsong’s hand.

Upon unfolding it, Zhang Jinsong’s expression turned to one of astonishment.

The name written there was Ye Hao.

Zhang Jinsong wondered, “What is the boss up to?”

He had no choice but to play along with Ye Hao’s scheme.

“Ye Hao,” announced Zhang Jinsong, turning the slip for all to see.

The crowd was stunned to see Ye Hao’s name as the draw.

No one had expected Ye Hao to be the fortunate one.

“Ye Hao isn’t even a member of the Immortals Retreat. How is he eligible for the panacea?” Leng Hongchang questioned sternly.

“Who told you Ye Hao isn’t a member of the Immortals Retreat?” Zhang Jinsong asked Leng Hongchang with an icy stare. “Leng Hongchang, are you implying that the Immortals Retreat lacks integrity?”

“No,” replied Leng Hongchang, his face ashen.

After all, the true power behind the Immortals Retreat was right there in the room!

“If you’re not questioning us, then I suggest you keep quiet,” Zhang Jinsong stated. As everyone looked on with envy, he gestured to a waiter to hand a panacea over to Ye Hao.

Ye Hao casually tossed the panacea and passed the jade vase to Zhou Wanqing. “This is for you.”

“For me?” Zhou Wanqing asked, astonished.

“I told you earlier that a girl who smiles often is bound to be lucky. Now do you see I wasn’t kidding?” Ye Hao said with a smile, gazing at Zhou Wanqing.
