Chapter 309The Underground [4]
Nodding her head in agreement, Ruby also glanced upward at the large crater in the ceiling before responding.
"A higher vantage point would help when searching through this... mess."
Focusing on my body, I attempted to feel my remaining corruption flowing inside my body, slowly moving it all towards my stomach.
As the corruption accumulated in my chest, I slowly began channeling the blood-red substance, opting out of using mana in order to conserve it for later
Within a few seconds, the blood-red substance and pitch-black corruption collided, sending a surge of shock through my body.
And when I reopened my eyes, a pitch-black and blood-red wing appeared on my right shoulder.
Although she had seen it before, Ruby still sat at the hanging wing with her eyes wide open, shocked at its sudden appearance.
Pointing at the blood-red and pitch-black wing, Ruby curiously asked.
"So..are you part-bird or something?"
"...? It's a skill book I picked up; don't worry, I'm still human!"
Nodding her head with her eyebrows slanted, Ruby stared at me for a couple more seconds, prompting me to ask.
"And do you have a way to get up?"
Pretending to rub her chin, Ruby looked around for a moment before pointing at the wall and saying.
"I was going to climb...but if you're offerin-"
Shaking my head with a grin, I interrupted her mid-sentence.
"Oh? I don't ever recall offering you an-"
"Appreciate it, and I'll take you up on your offer to fly me up! What a kind soul you are!"
Not letting me finish my sentence, Ruby jumped up from the ground before walking towards me with a determined expression.
Standing a few feet in front of me, Ruby awkwardly glanced at me, avoiding eye contact, before letting out a sigh.
Not wanting to waste any more time and afraid that my corrupted figure would be caught, I simply turned around.
With my back facing Ruby, I leaned downwards before pointing at my back and saying.
"Are you getting on or climbing?"
After a couple of moments of silence, Ruby managed to stammer out.
"Alright..."
Feeling a sudden pressure exerted on my back, I waited for her arms to wrap around my shoulders before slowly standing up.
With her hands on my shoulders and her head above mine, Ruby took a couple of seconds to gain her balance before finally saying.
"I'm ready."
Nodding my head, I immediately flapped my wing once, appearing ten meters up in the air.
However, as I appeared ten meters up, I felt Ruby's chin crash into my head as she gripped onto me even tighter.
Ignoring the small pain, I flapped my wing two more times before finally appearing right below the crater.
Levitating in the air below the crater, I reached my hands upward, gripping the edge of the ceiling's crater.
Taking the opportunity, Ruby slowly stood up before using me as a ramp and walking right into the crater.
Barely managing to keep my grip on the ceiling as Ruby crawled across my back, I turned my head upwards after a couple of seconds.
And right above me was Ruby, reaching her hand out from the crater and attempting to pull me up.
Graciously accepting her hand, I de-manifested the wing before finally climbing up to the crater.
As my legs touched the floor of the crater, Ruby fell back onto the floor, panting out of exhaustion.
Also, breathing heavily, I took a few moments to gather some air before finally beginning to look around the crater.
The massive hole in the ceiling was structured quite interestingly...
Since the trajectory of the purple orb that I had sent was slanted on, not straight, there was some space beside the hole that led back into the underground space.
The ceiling got progressively higher but remained the same width as I walked further into the crater.
Behind me, Ruby caught up to me after a couple of moments and quickly said.
"I'm surprised the entire ceiling didn't collapse on us when this crater was formed..."
Nodding my head, I also inwardly thanked my luck for finally being useful, as I hadn't actually known if the ceiling was going to break or not when I created and sent the purple orb.
"Hmm?"
Seeing Ruby suddenly stop and fall behind me, I turned around and saw Ruby standing in front of the crater's walls.
Walking up behind her, I stared at the wall, which seemed completely normal as it was just rocky and covered in dirt.
"Did you notice something?"
Keeping her gaze locked onto the wall, Ruby placed her finger and traced the wall before finally replying.
"It's a bit...too perfect, isn't it? Shouldn't some rocks be protruding from the wall? Why is it completely flat?"
Also, placing my hand on the wall, I traced from the top to the bottom, and indeed, it was a completely flat surface.
And this wall wasn't an exception as I stared around and quickly noticed the same thing across all the other walls.
The rocks, instead of protruding from the wall, had simply been cut into half or pieces and flattened.
Perhaps my purple orb had some special ability like that?
But then, that begged the question, where did the pieces of rock that cut off go?
In unison, both Ruby and I glanced at the ground below us, but it was the same.
Completely flat, devoid of any sticking-out rocks, and besides a few pebbles, just dirt.
Where had the pieces of rock gone?n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
*BANG*
Catching me completely off guard, Ruby raised her foot before slamming it downwards into the ground.
Feeling the ground below me shake, I immediately looked around in shock before saying to Ruby.
"Are you trying to destroy this whole place!?"
It was lucky enough the ceiling hadn't collapsed when I had sent the purple orb, so now, we were pushing it by stomping on the ground.
Ignoring me, Ruby slowly raised her right foot once again.
