Chapter 95 94 - B-Team Match

Lucas pulled his number 7 shirt over his chest and raised his head. Just then, he felt a slap on the back.

"That's it, Lucas. We'll start with the ball. Let's show off?" Raphael asked, smiling.

Lucas nodded and said: "Right, let's get into position."

Lucas took the ball forward, advancing a few steps while Raphael positioned himself further to the left, ready to support. The other players on his team began to move in a simple but well-distributed formation on the small pitch. Suddenly, someone stopped next to Lucas as he looked ahead. He looked over and saw Felix.

"Hey, kid, it's good that we're on the same team now, isn't it?"n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Lucas felt Felix's gaze on him and, for a moment, almost forgot about the ball between his feet. The presence of the No. 5, one of the most intimidating players Lucas had ever played against, brought a sense of responsibility - and a certain relief that they were on the same team. He smiled, still adjusting the position of the ball.

"I think it's good too, Felix. With you here, I feel we have a better chance of holding up play. I'll need your cover if I go too high, OK?"

Felix laughed briefly. "Relax, kid. Just don't make me run more than I have to, okay?"

Lucas nodded, undeterred by his companion's tone. He knew Felix was two years older, but he also knew that this kind of teasing was, in a way, encouragement. Everyone had their own way of supporting, and his was that: firm and provocative.

When the sharp murmur cut through the air, dispersing the slight silence that had settled in, Lucas took the initial touch, pushing the ball to Raphael, who quickly returned it to Lucas in the middle.

'With Team-B's main attacking players in their team, I think they'll get forward and score high.' Lucas thought and laid the ball back to the defense with a light touch.

However, while he expected the opposing team to push forward, they actually remained static, almost as if they were expecting some offensive action from Lucas and his teammates. This surprised him.

'It's a trap.' Lucas deduced quickly.

Lucas took a deep breath, feeling the energy of the surrounding field. The sun was high, casting long shadows on the green, well-kept grass, which smelled of fresh earth and effort. The noise of the fans in the stands reverberated in the air, like an exciting melody that raised the adrenaline in his veins. He was ready. This game would not be just another match; it was an opportunity to prove himself, to show his worth.

With one swift movement, he gave the ball a light touch, causing it to spin towards Raphael. The left winger, with his short hair and determined eyes, was well positioned, waiting for his chance. On receiving the ball, Raphael sped up like a rocket being launched. His feet seemed to dance across the pitch, dodging the pressure of the approaching opposition defender.

"Come on, Lucas! On me!" Raphael shouted, his voice full of energy, as the muscles in his legs contracted, ready for a sprint.

Lucas prepared to take the next step. He knew Raphael could do something incredible if he had the space. But when the left winger made a feint, a flash of unease crossed Lucas' face. There was something in the opposing team's posture, in the way they organized themselves, that suggested they were much more prepared than they expected.

Lucas crossed the ball back to Raphael, who controlled the ball with his right foot, but before he could advance, he noticed a quick movement. Arthur, the opposing team's No. 9, a tall and cunning player, launched himself towards the ball, like a predator in search of its prey.

"Look out!" Felix shouted, his piercing voice echoing amid the noise of the crowd. Lucas tried to step sideways to avoid the interception, but Arthur was quicker and more experienced.

The No. 9 slid across the pitch and, with a precise touch, deflected the ball, throwing it into the passing line.

'What was that? He reacted too quickly.' Lucas thought.

With impressive speed, Arthur threw the ball to the opposite side, where one of his teammates was already preparing to attack.

"Get back! Defend!" shouted Anton, the goalkeeper, as he positioned himself in his area. Lucas watched as the opposing team advanced, their players moving with a fluidity that seemed rehearsed, like a choreographed ballet.

Time-B's main striker, fast and determined, drove the ball into the defense. After all, the field was reduced, which was preparing for the impact.

Lucas saw defender Luiz Fernando position himself, trying to block Arthur's path, but the striker dribbled past him boldly, as if Luiz were just a momentary obstacle.

With a confident smile, Arthur prepared to shoot. The blow was firm and swift, an arrow towards the goal. Anton threw himself to one side, stretching out his arms with all his might, but the ball flew past him and into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

"One-nil to the B-Team!" announced Hillebrand, changing the paper scoreboard at the side of the pitch because that was all he had left to do.

When the ball returned to midfield, Raphael lowered his head and said:

"I'm sorry guys, I didn't see he was so close and I missed the ball that led to the counter-attack. It was bad, really!"

"That wasn't the only problem. We have to organize ourselves better. Our defense was weak." Felix said, including himself in the comment.

"They're playing as a team. We need to connect and not let the ball slip away again because they have four attacking pieces and much greater synchronization than us. Working as a team comes naturally to them." Lucas expressed what he was thinking at the time of the goal: "Let's exchange more passes and go forward as a pack. That's the only way we'll score goals."
