Chapter 583 Vijay's condition & Stefan Baros

Ezekiel Oppenheimer and Moshe Goldstein were about to thank His Majesty and leave, but surprisingly, the next words of Vijay surprised them.

"In fact, there is a way for you to not only know where the Bharatiya Empire is planning to help you build the nation but also about the current steps that are being taken to make that happen."

Ezekiel, who was about to put some strength into his legs and get up, immediately sat down. "Please tell me, Your Majesty. I will do whatever is in my ability."Nôv(el)B\\jnn

Vijay was satisfied. "Well, the requirements are not too complex, Ezekiel. It is just that if your Oppenheimer family really wants to be the controllers of this new Jewish nation, then I would like to see the determination of your family. I need someone from your family to permanently emigrate to the Bharatiya Empire and expand the number of people emigrating from Europe."

"Not only that, for the next five years, a person from your family should work for the Empire's interest. It is better that Mr. Joseph immigrates to the Bharatiya Empire himself, which would show me his determination, and you would do too, depending on the confidence of the Oppenheimer family."

"But let me tell you this: if our Bharatiya Empire wants to support a member of your family as the leading figure in the Jewish nation, then it can only be the person who is a citizen of the Bharatiya Empire and not of the Holy Roman Empire."

"This is all the conditions I have."

"With these fulfilled, I will not only involve you in the current plans to build a Jewish nation but also reveal the place where the nation will be built."

Vijay intently stared at Ezekiel Oppenheimer, wanting to see how he would respond.

Ezekiel Oppenheimer and Moshe Goldstein were immediately stunned by the requirements, not because they were too hard, but because they were too little. However, it was this one requirement that made Ezekiel Oppenheimer stumped, because he knew His Majesty was directly asking for the power center of the Oppenheimer family to be transferred from Europe to Bharat so as to utilize all the power of the Jewish people in Europe for himself.

But the allure of an independent Jewish nation was too much, and in all honesty, it is not too much for His Majesty to make such a request, since it is normal for him to expect his collaborators to put their 100 percent effort into the collaboration.

"It is a fair condition, Your Majesty, but I do not have the power to decide this matter. If you can, please give me some time, and I will give you the reply as soon as I contact my father."

Vijay nodded his head since this was expected.

"That is natural. When your family takes the decision, do notify Ganesh. As soon as you do that, I will fulfil all the conditions I had promised."

While the meeting between His Majesty and the Jews was going on, appointment letters for the first batch of graduates from the Bharatiya Academy of Naturalization were officially sent.

Along with the appointment letters were the land deeds of 20 acres of land for their work, along with a bank passbook with an account holding 1,000 Varaha in it.

For the first batch of graduates who had emigrated from Europe, this news came at the best time. They had graduated nearly two weeks ago, except for the minority who had stayed back in the college to complete their specialized courses aimed at legitimizing their skill they had mastered in Europe. The rest of the graduates were left without a care.

For anyone in the 21st century, this should be a piece of very good news because they were expected to do nothing while at the same time being fed three times a day with delicious food. But for the people in the era where death due to starvation was not uncommon, staying jobless was the biggest sin. Even if they were fed three times a day, they would still feel restless if they had nothing to do since they had already gotten used to a hard life.

However, now that the appointment letters, along with the rewards they had been promised, were given, they were extremely happy. According to the appointment letter, each and every graduate of the academy had three days to arrange the matters in their residence and leave. But, against expectations, the Jews and Romani who were already feeling restless immediately set off to their appointed places within two days.

Some even left for their work on the same day they received the appointment letter.

Stefan Baros was one such graduate who had gotten on a carriage within that day in order to take over his duty.

Although this decision of his was firmly opposed by his wife, who was working in a local Bharatiya shop, and his daughter, who wouldn't stop crying, he did not change his decision. He already knew how lucky he was to have come to the Bharatiya Empire. He did not want to be a rice bug anymore, and more importantly, he understood after three months of study in the Bharatiya Academy of Naturalisation that his wife and daughter would live a safe and happy life in this empire, unlike back in Europe, where he had to worry about their life and death.

Stefan Baros was a Romani who had emigrated from Europe because he had refused to sell his only heirloom, which had been passed down in his family for many generations, to the local noble.

Due to his refusal, the noble got angry, used his knights, and tried to take his heirloom by force. Fortunately, Stefan was cautious and had learned about the noble's plans beforehand, as he hadn't slept that night and was scouting the area for enemies.

His cautiousness saved his life, but unfortunately, he couldn't run away since he had his family in the temporary tent he had set up nearby. So, by the time the knights arrived at the tent, he ran back and fled with his family.

However, unfortunately, although the knights couldn't catch up, the scout that came with the knights managed to catch up with him as he fled with his family.

In panic and worried about his little daughter, he ended up making the first move and decisively ending the scout's life.

Although this did indeed allow him to escape the immediate threat, it did not let him rest at ease, as his killing of a subordinate of a noble officially made him a criminal in the eyes of the authorities, and his poster was hung up all over the Holy Roman Empire.

Fortunately, he came across a Jew who was recruiting Romani in order to emigrate to the Bharatiya Empire. Listening to the details, Stefan immediately realized it was a chance for him to escape, but he was worried about his family.

However, to his surprise, when he looked at the flag of the Bharatiya Empire, there was a circular symbol in the middle that actually resembled his family heirloom.

"Respected sir, do you know what this circular symbol means?" he asked with a humble attitude.

Unfortunately, though, the Jew did not know anything about the history of the Bharatiya Empire, so he simply shook his head. Just when Stefan was getting disappointed, he heard something that gave him the final push to make the decision.

"Although I don't know what the circular thing on the flag means, I should tell you that you should really consider emigrating to the Bharatiya Empire, especially since you're not only literate but also very well-versed in logistics (he is a carriage driver in his new identity). If you consider my suggestion, not only will you not be persecuted there, since people there are of a darker skin tone than you, but also because you can immediately start a living, as you will be granted a lot of land, some money, and a stable job."

"More importantly, I heard that your Romani race originated from the Bharatiya Empire many centuries ago, so it would be like you returning to your ancestral home." When he said the last words, there was a hint of envy in his tone, but soon determination took over his eyes.

With these words from the Jew, Stefan was immediately convinced and seriously considered the option of emigrating to Bharat. Although he knew the risk, he was at a dead end. If he did not leave the Holy Roman Empire, he would surely be hunted down. If he fled to other countries, the situation would not be better, since without the network of Romani helping to avoid troubles, a single Romani had a very hard time surviving.

The only option left was to emigrate to someplace where the Romani were not looked down upon, and the Bharatiya Empire perfectly fit the bill. He wanted to emigrate alone since he knew the dangers of the ocean, but he also knew that once he went to the Bharatiya Empire, it would be almost impossible to meet with his family again. Most importantly, there wasn't even a guarantee that his family would be safe and sound without him around.

So, although extremely dangerous, he had to bite the bullet and bring his family along with him. Thankfully, by Devi's grace, nothing unexpected had happened. Except for a little seasickness, there were no problems with his family.

After 40 days of travelling through the oceans, the Baros family officially entered the port of Thiruvananthapuram. Stefan was immediately enrolled in the Bharatiya Academy of Naturalisation, while his wife was employed by a local Bharatiya shop as a translator, and his daughter was enrolled in school.

---

The travel to his location took three whole days. Even though he could feel that he was travelling at a very fast speed on the smoothest road he had ever seen, it still took multiple days to reach the city of Pataliputra (Patna), the capital of the state of Maurya Nagar (East UP + Bihar). This alone showed how large the Bharatiya Empire was.

When he finally got down from the carriage, he was received by a local civil servant who showed him his living quarters and his work arrangements.

He would be working as assistant director in the Ministry of Transportation in the state of Maurya Nagar. He was pretty excited since he knew that he was starting at a very high position due to the current lack of backbone civil servants in the northern part of the Bharatiya Empire.

Although he knew that his work would be very hard for the next five years, and there would be moments when he would want to quit, he still chose this hard job since he knew that once he persisted, there was a very high chance that he would be one step closer to the super elite class of the Bharatiya Empire.

He worked with enthusiasm, and his work ethic greatly impressed his superiors and greatly motivated his subordinates. After a week of directly inspecting all the construction of roadway projects going on in the state, he realized that he could not handle everything by himself. So, he started to train grassroots civil servants, who barely knew how to read, into qualified middle-level civil servants who could handle a certain part of their duties independently.

Finally, almost a month after he took over his post, he got the chance to visit his plot of land.

Looking at the large expanse of land before his eyes, tears were brought to his eyes. Ever since he was born, he had not had anything that he could call his own.

He was used to a life of wandering to make a living. He would go from one place to another, selling his wares, providing his services, and working in any way possible to earn a livelihood. But now, looking at the large plot of land he had received for his work, he was greatly moved and extremely thankful for the graciousness of His Majesty Vijay Devaraya.

However, he could not stay long on his land since he was a busy person and did not have much free time. To ensure the land would not go to waste, he handed it over to an agricultural company from the southern part of the Empire for management, where he would receive 40% of the proceeds from the land in the form of grain or money in exchange for allowing the company to farm on his land.

Stefan Baros was only one such individual among the many immigrants who had taken up their posts after receiving the appointment letters.

They were currently leading fulfilling lives in a place where people wouldn't discriminate against them and, in some ways, even looked up to them for their exotic nature.
