Chapter 45 - 43: I Choose Zhan Qipei
Chapter 45: Chapter 43: I Choose Zhan Qipei
Zhan Yuanshan loved to hear that, and immediately became excited, grabbing Zhan Ruiting’s hand, “Good, good, good!”
“Three ‘goods’ in a row, my good grandson! I will arrange your marriage right now!”
Zhan Ruiting was so happy he almost fainted.
“Thank you, Grandpa! Thank you, Grandpa! You really are my good grandpa!”
“Don’t thank me too soon. If you can win her heart in the future, I will thank you.”
The grandfather and grandson held hands, creating a touching and heartwarming scene.
At this moment, a voice as dark as the center of a tornado rang out.
“I, do, not, agree!” These words seemed to burst through Zhan Qipei’s clenched teeth.
“What do you disagree with? You don’t like that girl anyway,” said Zhan Yuanshan.
“Exactly, you don’t like her,” Zhan Ruiting echoed.
A vein next to Zhan Qipei’s temple pulsed noticeably.
“Even if I don’t like her, this isn’t right. Don’t you think this will seem absurd if it gets out? Grandpa, aren’t you worried that people will speak ill behind the Zhan Family’s back?”
“Why should I care what others think? Should I worry about other people’s faces when dealing with my own family matters? As long as Jing Girl can be my granddaughter-in-law for life and give me great-grandchildren, those who gossip behind us will only be envious!”
They would be envious of his granddaughter-in-law, who was a great agricultural scientist contributing to the nation and the empire’s number one Divine Doctor Jing!
To achieve this goal, he didn’t care whether it was Zhan Qipei or Zhan Ruiting; as long as one of them could win Qiao Jing’s heart.
“I won’t agree to divorce her,” Zhan Qipei said coldly.
As long as he didn’t go through with the divorce with Qiao Jing, nobody could do anything.
“If you don’t agree, I’ll go to the rooftop right now,” Zhan Yuanshan threatened Zhan Qipei with his old trick.
This tactic was unfailingly effective against Zhan Qipei. He had been coerced into marriage using this method just a few days ago, thinking it would make him obedient this time.
Zhan Qipei’s eyes, dark and unclear, narrowed slightly, his expression turning cold.
“Then you go ahead.”
What?!
Zhan Yuanshan’s old eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at Zhan Qipei. Had his ears just played tricks on him?
His grandson was actually telling him to go ahead? Had his old tactic stopped working?
He couldn’t believe it! Although his grandson usually seemed cold, he was the most filial. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have successfully pressured him into marriage with that tactic.
He knew it!
The kid was doing this on purpose.
Fine, then he would up the ante.
“Hmph! Okay! So you don’t care if the old man lives or dies, huh? I’ll go up there now and perform a free fall for you!”
Zhan Yuanshan feigned anger and pushed his wheelchair away, with Zhan Ruiting immediately playing along and grabbing Zhan Yuanshan.
“Grandpa, don’t be mad. Cousin will agree, won’t you, Cousin?” Zhan Ruiting turned back to look at Zhan Qipei.
Zhan Qipei didn’t spare them an extra glance, stopping a passing waiter instead and taking a glass of red wine from the tray, sipping leisurely.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Zhan Yuanshan’s wrinkled old eyes bulged even larger.
This move didn’t work?
Why didn’t it work?
Regardless of whether it worked or not, he needed to quickly find a way out! After all, he couldn’t really climb up to the rooftop, could he?
“Cough, cough, cough—” Zhan Yuanshan cleared his throat, his mind racing.
There it is!
“Ruiting, go call Jing Girl over. We’ll consider Jing Girl’s thoughts as a priority.”
“Alright—” Zhan Ruiting cheerfully ran towards Qiao Jing.
Zhan Qipei’s drinking motion noticeably paused, and his eyes darkened slightly.
Soon, Qiao Jing came over with Zhan Ruiting.
“Grandpa Zhan, were you looking for me?”
Zhan Yuanshan was delighted to see Qiao Jing, and the annoyance he had felt in his heart instantly dissipated like smoke.
“Jing Girl, Grandpa has something to tell you.”
“What is it?” Qiao Jing asked with confusion.
“You don’t like Qipei, do you? What do you think about me arranging for you two to divorce?” Zhan Yuanshan asked with a cheery smile.
Zhan Qipei’s grip on his wine glass tightened, making his knuckles protrude, and he glanced sideways at Qiao Jing.
Qiao Jing’s eyes lit up, her face showing surprise, “Are you serious?”
“Crack-crack—” The wine glass creaked under Zhan Qipei’s grip.
“Of course I’m serious. At my age, why would I deceive you? You’re right, a melon forced off its vine isn’t sweet; me forcing you and Qipei is not good for you nor for him.”
Qiao Jing genuinely hadn’t expected that Zhan Yuanshan would come to a sudden realization like this.
“Then that would be best—”
Before Qiao Jing could finish speaking, she was interrupted by what Zhan Yuanshan said next.
“So I plan to arrange for you and Ruiting to get married. How about that?”
Qiao Jing was stunned.
How was this any different?
“Cough cough, Ruiting is really grateful for you saving his life, and as for his feelings towards you… I don’t think I need to say much more, you can feel them. So I think for the remainder of the time, you should live with Ruiting. Of course, it’s your decision; I won’t force you. Which will it be? Ruiting or Qipei?”
Honestly, Zhan Yuanshan genuinely felt from the bottom of his heart that Qiao Jing and Zhan Qipei were very well-matched in both temperament and appearance, and believed they were a couple made in heaven.
But alas, Qiao Jing did not like Zhan Qipei, and to make matters worse, Zhan Qipei was like a sculpture of ice. How could his icy demeanor let him ever hold great-grandchildren?
Zhan Ruiting, on the other hand, was different. He liked Qiao Jing and would use every chance he got to pursue her. Although Zhan Yuanshan felt that his grandson, Zhan Ruiting, was somewhat lacking, they say a persistent suitor may wear down his lady love, so perhaps a heartfelt dedication might break through.
And that would lead to the desired results.
Zhan Qipei stopped drinking, his eyes — dark orbs shrouded in obscurity — fixed unblinkingly on Qiao Jing, mixed with emotions that were difficult to articulate.
Zhan Ruiting also gazed at Qiao Jing with eager eyes, as if he would fold up his ears if he had them and wag his tail if there was one to wag.
Qiao Jing looked at Zhan Qipei, then at Zhan Ruiting.
Zhan Qipei, although sometimes very annoying, had helped her a few times. As for Zhan Ruiting…
Qiao Jing’s gaze lingered on Zhan Ruiting when she looked at him.
This action of Qiao Jing nearly made Zhan Qipei’s heart skip a beat, his breath caught in his throat, and his already somber face turned as dark as the night outside.
One person’s joy is another’s sorrow. While Zhan Qipei’s face darkened, Zhan Ruiting was so delighted he nearly laughed out loud, wishing he could immediately take Qiao Jing’s hand and go home with her.
To start a family.
Qiao Jing furrowed her brows slightly. Although she didn’t have anyone she liked, that didn’t mean she had low emotional intelligence; she simply hadn’t met someone who moved her heart.
So she could tell what Zhan Ruiting was thinking.
Her agreement to marry Zhan Qipei was solely to fulfill the agreement between her grandfather and Grandpa Zhan.
After 100 days, she was surely going to leave the Zhan Family.
Compared to Zhan Qipei, with whom she had no feelings, Zhan Ruiting seemed to be more trouble.
Thinking this through, Qiao Jing made up her mind and said to Zhan Yuanshan, “I choose Zhan Qipei.”
