Chapter 340: Meeting with Death
Chapter 340: Meeting with Death
Adam sat on top of a rock, watching as the Dark God walked towards him; behind him, the five corpses had already started to rot.
"Did that impress you?" Alastor said. "It was a simple task for someone of my power."
"..." Adam simply stared back in silence.
"I don't like when you're silent." Alastor said. "That's not very like you. Could it be that you're now scared since you aren't in control?"
"Stop idling around, and do it already." Adam said coldly.
"Do what?" Alastor raised an eyebrow.
"You know." Adam touched his chest. "Stab your black spear through my heart already. That's what you planned to do, right?"
"..." Alastor manifested a black spear on his right hand and placed its tip against Adam's chest. "You want to die?"
"This was always going to only end in my death," Adam said. "I will resurrect. That's what players do. And I will grow stronger every time."
"You're ready to lose all your power?" Alastor laughed.
"It only took me a year to reach my current power." Adam said. "Year, two, or three. I don't care. I will catch up to your strength one day."
"Heh..." Alastor stabbed through his flesh and reached the heart. "You better hide then. If I find you, I will kill you again."
"..." Adam closed his eyes and felt the black spear piercing through his heart.
With that, his health reached zero for the first time, and he was engulfed in darkness.
...
At the monastery.
"Ah~" Lady Yu touched her chest, and she felt like she had just lost a piece of herself. "What is this? What happened?"
She started crying without understanding why.
"No..." She realized it. "He died... no..."
She closed her eyes, accepting her faith, but the sweet feeling of death never came to her.
The suffocating feeling had disappeared, and as she opened her eyes, she noticed that she was still sitting in her monastery room.
The death never came.
"Why? Why? Why!" She rushed to the bookshelf and took a book that explained more about the connection between soulmates.
The holy ceremony should've linked their lives together.
If one of them died, the other would also die!n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
When she finished flipping through the book, she found the correct page that also told the
same.
She should've died.
"How..." Lady Yu walked over to the window with a depressed look. "You knew, didn't you, Adam? That I wouldn't die if you did? I hate you..."
With tears in her eyes, she collapsed on the ground in despair.
-
Within darkness, Adam opened his eyes.
'Death...' He stood back up and shook his head.
It was a strange feeling.
It was different from his past life.
This death wasn't depressing or heartbreaking.
It was peaceful and liberating.
'Well...' Adam stood up and turned to stare into the distance.
There the light door was standing.
'I wonder what awaits on the other door. The afterlife? I wonder why no one keeps their memories of that place.
'I must know.'
With slow steps, he slowly made his way over to the door and reached out to touch it.
When his hand went through the door, the rest of his body got sucked inside.
...
The sound of birds chirping reverberated throughout the clear, blue sky.
With his eyes fluttering open, Adam looked around the beautiful place with his nose, taking in the fresh scent of flowers.
All the fatigue had disappeared, replaced by the feeling of weightlessness. It almost felt like if he wanted to, he could just float across the air like a leaf.
When he fully opened his eyes, he noticed that he was sitting on a field of flowers with a beautiful city standing in the distance.
This field of flowers was very colorful, and he wasn't the only one sitting there.
There were thousands of white-clothed individuals sitting with smiles on their faces as if they never wanted to move.
Adam caught sight of a castle with tall towers standing in the middle of the city. It looked like something out of a fairy tale.
'This is the afterlife or heaven?' Adam wondered. 'It's not really what I expected.'
"Hey, young man." A hand suddenly touched his shoulder. "Welcome, and please, make your way to the castle. The Mistress Death is waiting."
Adam turned around to look at the blond-haired man smiling kindly at him.
"Mistress Death?" Adam asked. "She is here?"
He had met her already, back at the Eldertree Institute when she was at the Realm Between.
She was trying to tempt him into joining her in the blissful afterlife.
"Yes, she is." The man kindly said. "She is waiting for you."
Adam slowly stood up and stumbled over his feet as he made his way over to the city.
When he reached the city, he kept walking down the street, and everyone kept moving kindly out of his way while greeting him and patting him on the shoulder.
It seemed like malice didn't exist in this place, only kindness.
A short walk later, he reached the castle. The gates opened to him. He walked through, and the servants of the castle opened the doors for him with kindly smiles on their faces.
'What a strange place.' Adam walked down the hallway, a feeling of blissfulness hugging him
like a warm mother. 'It feels addicting...'
When he reached the end of the hallway, the throne room's opened, and Adam stepped through to see Mistress Death in her white, thin gown, sitting gracefully on top of a white
pillow.
"Please sit." She said and offered him a pillow.
Adam sat down, the warm feeling of the pillow seeping through his trousers.
"You've finally come." Mistress Death said with a smile. "I've been waiting for you."
"Have you?" Adam raised an eyebrow. "Since our last meeting?"
"Mm." Mistress Death nodded. "I know you were afraid of the afterlife. Now that you've seen
it, what do you think?"
"It is..." Adam looked out of the window. "Truly beautiful."
"I am glad you think so." She said with a smile. "This shall be your home now."
