Level Up Legacy

Chapter 1390 Crumbling and Pale

Arthur watched the proud mage leave with a smile. Koby had proved to be more than capable when it came to dangerous matters like these, so Arthur was not worried about the exploration team.

Instead, he returned to his home in Runera. He found the house to be empty as Diana was still working with Julia. Arthur stared at the empty home and sighed, feeling a strange void in his chest.

After taking off his clothes, Arthur went into the shower. His reflection in the mirror was no longer the scrawny boy from before, but rather a battle-hardened man filled with scars. His body was covered with scars from his different battles.

Arthur could heal them with a wave of his hand, but he did not. He did not want to forget the hardships he had to go through, nor the pain of losing his loved ones. He could still remember how Diana's dead body felt when he carried it.

The hot water ran down his body, taking away a day's worth of fatigue. Arthur took his time to clean himself before leaving the shower room. He waved a hand, illuminating the living room as he went into the bedroom and changed his clothes.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Arthur sat in the living room after that. He turned on the television, but found a static screen. The world had yet to recover its infrastructure after the two worlds merged.

In the end, he had nothing to do. It was a strange and unfamiliar feeling as he sat down inside his home. Arthur rarely experienced days where he had nothing to do ever since he awakened.

At the moment, there was no training he needed to do. Of course, he could get stronger and reach the Astra-rank, but Arthur was tired of the hustle and bustle. After a long journey and imprisonment, he wanted to rest and enjoy the little things.

Arthur sat on the couch and did nothing. The quiet and ambient home with the chill of winter made Arthur fall asleep for a little nap. As his consciousness faded, Arthur found himself standing atop a giant tree.

Clouds mottled the blue sky as the tree overlooked the forest. Arthur sat down on the branch and enjoyed the view. However, the forest began to turn black, and the sky grew pale. Arthur was confused until he heard a voice inside his mind.

"Master…"

A voice so distant and ethereal that Arthur might have mistaken it for an illusion. Arthur turned his head toward the giant tree and saw its leaves falling with its branches dying.

"Rega?" muttered Arthur in confusion. The voice could no longer answer him, as if having used its strength to call for him once. Arthur then snapped out of his dream and his eyes opened to see Diana standing in the living room.

"Are you alright, Arthur?" asked Diana with confusion as she touched his forehead. "You have a fever."

"How can I have a fever?" Arthur asked with a smile as he lowered his head and sighed. "I had a dream about Rega. Is it still dormant?"

"Rega kept me alive for a hundred and fifty years," Diana said as she sat next to him, placing a hand to caress his head. "I think it needs more time to remain dormant."

"In my vision, I saw the branches dying," Arthur said with a shake of his head. "I need to investigate this."

"It was just a dream, Arthur," Diana tried to calm him down. "We will go and see Rega in a bit. How about that?"

"It was also a dream that made Master Ronin guide me to the trial," Arthur said with a sigh. "I need to see it for myself too."

Diana nodded and the two abandoned their plans for a peaceful dinner. The two of them used a portal that Arthur created to reach the Mother of Mana, which blessed the city of Runera with mana ever since its creation.

Rega was the tree salvaged from the Shade City in Freda. It was also the home of the creator when he first arrived in this world. Another city could be built atop its giant branches, which made Diana and Arthur look insignificant in comparison.

Arthur walked toward the center of the tree and placed a palm on its trunk. However, there was nothing even after a few moments of waiting. Rega did not open its inner world for them.

"What does this mean?" asked Diana with confusion as she stepped beside him. "Why isn't Rega answering?"

"It's still dormant, but it should let me inside even if it was," Arthur muttered in confusion before he raised a hand toward Diana. "Step back."

Diana took a step back and allowed Arthur to summon his spiritual energy. The overbearing pressure covered the entire city the moment Arthur let loose a little. He placed a hand again on the tree and infused it with his spiritual energy.

A few moments later, a gate opened for them. Diana slipped a hand into Arthur's palm and the two walked inside together. The world inside was pale and crumbling, devoid of any signs of life.

The hut was the only thing remaining, but it looked worn out and abandoned. Arthur looked around the inner world and found that the sky was black with cracks inside it. He raised a hand to supply it with his mana of creation, but it didn't work to restore the world.

"Let's go inside."

Arthur and Diana walked into the hut and found it to be the same as they remembered. Rega had kept this hut as a memory of its former master, but it used to live inside. There was no one inside.

"I don't understand," Diana muttered with confusion. "Rega should be recovering."

"Keeping a single human alive wouldn't do this much damage to it," Arthur said with sadness as he traced the dust on the wooden table. "This is the result of Famine infecting our world."

"Famine?"

"One of the four horsemen of doom, and a minion of Nameless. It seems that merging the two worlds has accelerated their invasion."

"What can we do to stop it?"

"We need to destroy Famine at its core," Arthur said as he turned toward Diana. "It's time to visit the lands of the elves, Janea."
