Chapter 671: 670 is missing you a lot
“Brother, I’m not afraid of them saying you’re bullying your own sister, but I’m afraid they’ll say I’m pretending to be pitiful, stealing away their dream man.”
“Haha, that’s a good point, so don’t cry in public anymore.”
Gu Kai laughs loudly, taking her hand, leading her to the parking spot, opening the car door and pushing her inside.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
“Ranran, let’s eat first, then I can take you home.”
Gu Kai sat in the driver’s seat, fastening his seat belt while speaking softly, looking at Wen Ran with a smile in his eyes.
Wen Ran raised an eyebrow, a clean and lovely smile on her gorgeous cheeks: “Of course, I’ve been starving. Not only was the airplane food unbearable, I also don’t like foreign food. Brother, let’s go to Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion, I like their food.”
“Sit tight, I’m going to drive.”
Gu Kai raised his hand to ruffle her hair. Wen Ran attempted to dodge but failed, and he laughed triumphantly.
Wen Ran pouted, about to say something, but the phone rang. She pulled out her phone and with a slight change in her eyes as she saw the caller. Gu Kai, in the driver’s seat, leaned over to peer at the screen and spoke when he saw the name: “The call is from Mo Xiuchen. He’s probably telling you, he’s coming back.”
“Mm-hmm.”
As soon as Wen Ran saw the caller ID, her heart skipped a beat. She stared at the phone screen, said “Mm-hmm” and hit the answer button, her cheerful voice spilling from her red lips: “Hello, Mo Xiuchen.”
“Ranran, have you gone to bed?”
The deep and familiar voice of Mo Xiuchen seeped through her eardrums over the signal, magnetic yet gentle. To Wen Ran, it seemed like he was whispering directly in her ear, rather than calling her over the phone.
A faint smile adorned her face, her voice playful as she was about to tell him she was about to go to bed. But when a car honked its horn, she changed her response, “I’m still outside, what about you, what are you doing right now?”
“Outside, are you on a business trip?”
Mo Xiuchen asked, concern in his tone.
“Mm-hmm, I’ll be back tomorrow.”
“Don’t overwork yourself.”
Moi Xiuchen said over the phone, his voice no less tender and sympathy-laden, without a hint of any unusual.
If Wen Ran didn’t know his current circumstance, she’d fear that she wouldn’t know he was pretending until the day he really left.
Ignoring the pang of pain in her heart, Wen Ran quietly asked, “Xiuchen, when can you come back? We’ve discovered that there’s an issue with the beauty product. Technically, we could use this to negotiate with Liao Dongxing and get him to reveal Fu Jingyi ‘s whereabouts.”
Her voice contained three parts missing him, two parts petulance, and a part of waiting, making Mo Xiuchen’s heart clench. His original desire to surprise her was crushed with that question, “Ranran, I’ll be coming back for a bit in the next few days.”
He said he would come back for a bit, not just come back.
Adding the two words changed the meaning entirely, but Wen Ran was still elated, “Ah, Xiuchen, are you really coming back, when?”
Gu Kai listened silently to Wen Ran’s conversation, watching her with soft eyes, thinking to himself that Ranran was quite the actress too.
Mo Xiuchen chuckled on the other end of the phone, his rich laughter beautifully melodious, “Of course it’s true. This time I’m mainly going to A City, like you just said, to negotiate with Liao Dongxing. However, I’ll stop by G City first. I’ll call you when I get to G City.”
He explained unhurriedly, laying out the groundwork for his subsequent need to leave; coming back to see her first before leaving again appeared perfectly normal.
Wen Ran understood his meaning, responding, “Alright, even if you just come back to see me and leave right away, that still means you’ve come back to see me. It reassures me that you’re thinking of me, missing me.”
“Ranran, I don’t just miss you or think about you, I really miss you. But I’ve been too busy recently, I didn’t have time to accompany you.”
Mo Xiuchen corrected her, causing a touch of a sour pang in Wen Ran’s heart. She suddenly felt tired on behalf of Mo Xiuchen, felt his suffering, every word he said, every action he took, probably took a lot of thought, to ensure it wouldn’t contradict his subsequent actions.
Wen Ran feigned cheerfulness, “It’s okay. When you’re done with all these, just compensate me properly.”
“Mm-hmm, I guess I don’t have any other choice. Ranran, it’s getting late. Go home and rest soon.”
Mo Xiuchen wanted to end the call, but Wen Ran felt a great reluctance. She fell quiet for a bit, thinking that he needed to rest too, and spoke softly, “When you’re coming back, remember to call me in advance. I’ll pick you up from the airport.”
After hanging up, the smile faded from Wen Ran’s face.
Gu Kai teased, “Mo Xiuchen’s call was really timely. If he’d called a bit earlier, your phone would’ve been off.”
A little stunned, Wen Ran looked at Gu Kai, considering his words, a speculation flashing across her mind. A bitter smile appeared on the edge of her lips.
“Ranran, you look awful when you laugh like this.”
Gu Kai frowned, pretending to glare at her in displeasure.
Wen Ran still smiled, but her smile was tinged with an indescribable emotion, “Brother, maybe, Mo Xiuchen doesn’t only have good intuition, maybe he already knew I went to Country D, and that I had just got off the plane. This call isn’t just to tell me he’s coming back.”
“Huh?”
Gu Kai stared at Wen Ran in astonishment.
“Didn’t you say that Mo Xiuchen didn’t see you? Could it be that Ah Mu snitched? Impossible, Ah Mu is very tight-lipped. If you told him not to tell Mo Xiuchen, he definitely wouldn’t have told him.”
Wen Ran pressed her lips together, changing the subject, “Brother, let’s go.”
“Alright!”
Seeing she didn’t want to discuss further, Gu Kai didn’t press on. He started the car and they hit the road. Wen Ran turned her head to look out the window, a calm and casual expression on her face.
It wasn’t until the two sat in Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion, enjoying the delicious food, that Wen Ran softly spoke as if musing to herself, “Mo Xiuchen’s call earlier was just to make sure I’ve returned safely to G City.”
Gu Kai was drinking soup. Upon hearing Wen Ran’s words, he immediately looked up at her, “Ranran, how can you be so sure that Mo Xiuchen knew you went to Country D?”
Wen Ran gave a faint smile, “Brother, I understand Mo Xiuchen better than all of you do, do you believe that?”
Gu Kai didn’t respond, obviously disbelieving.
He and Mo Xiuchen had been friends for thirty years and his understanding of him was no lesser than his own.
But now Ranran was saying she understood Mo Xiuchen better than they did, he was naturally skeptical.
Wen Ran caught his disbelief, she spoke again, taking care of herself, “Mo Xiuchen knew I went to Country D, because we’ve always had a deep connection. When he decided to return, he didn’t call, nor did he call before boarding the plane. Normally, he should’ve waited till getting back to G City to surprise me. But he didn’t, instead, he chose now to call me…”
