Chapter 368 Turning the Tide - Part 1
"What is going on?" Patriarch Wei asked with a deep frown.
This was not going according to their plan. Previously, they thought it would be easy to destroy the Celestial Heavenly Store, but all their plans had failed miserably.
As the four most powerful clans in the city, even the city lord had to bend to their demands, and yet, they couldn't take down a single store.
A deafening silence reigned in the hall as all eyes turned to a particular woman. Feeling the others' gazes on her, a light sigh escaped from her mouth, but then she regained her calm when she remembered a particular plot.
"You don't need to worry; everything is under control," she reassured with a light smile.
"Really?" The Feng Patriarch was skeptical.
All their plans were falling apart, but the Mo Matriarch still dared to say that everything was under her control. Unless there was something she wasn't telling them, or she was taking them for fools.
The other three patriarchs looked at each other, various thoughts marring their faces. Their so-called alliance seemed to be failing them, so they began thinking of alternatives.
"Why don't we join hands with the city lord?" the Sun Patriarch said after a moment of silence.
"I agree… If things go on like this, it will only be a matter of time before the Celestial Heavenly Store becomes an unshakable force in the city," the Feng Patriarch said with a solemn tone.
"What do you think?" the Wei Patriarch asked, staring at the Mo Patriarch.
"Whatever… As long as we can bring down the store and get the superior technique, I'll go with any plan," she responded.
With that, the clan leaders began to plan how to collude with the city lord to attack the Celestial Heavenly Store.
Meanwhile, inside the City Lord's Mansion, sitting behind his wooden desk, the city lord had a grave expression on his face as he read the various reports.
"The Necoris are getting daring," he muttered, anger marring his face.
From the reports, he learned about the various activities of the Necoris happening in the city.
He dropped the report, and a sharp, sinister glint flashed through his eyes.
"Those traitors dare to collude with the Necoris without caring about the lives of others…" His voice trailed off, his blood boiling in anger.
"Just wait—when I destroy the Celestial Heavenly Store, I won't spare you."n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
As the city lord, how could he not know that some of the powerful clans had lost their humanity and sided with the evil Necoris?
He had been planning to kill all the traitors in one clean sweep, but the arrival of the Celestial Heavenly Store changed everything, delaying the purge.
"How is the plan?" he asked, staring at his butler.
"My lord, everything is in order. We're just waiting for your command," the butler responded respectfully.
"Good." He nodded. "Let them exhaust their resources before we attack."
In an underground basement, a group of Necoris stood with solemn expressions on their faces.
Standing before them was a tall, broad Necoris, radiating a savage, intimidating aura.
His scales were quite different from the others. His dark scales were covered in a purple hue, glistening under the dim light.
"Trash! How could you lose the prey?" Zennad shouted in fury.
He had deployed his team to conquer this small city, and everything was going to plan until they reported the appearance of a superior-grade technique.
He was brimming with happiness, thinking it was time for him to rise in rank.
Therefore, without hesitation, he rushed to Dongping City, commanding them to capture the first human to cultivate the superior-grade technique.
Unfortunately, these fools lost their prey. How could he not be furious?
Glaring at the team captain, he snarled, "I give you a day to give me a reasonable answer, or you'll spend the rest of your miserable life in the frozen pit."
When the Necoris heard the term "frozen pit," they all shivered, their faces contorted in fear.
"Commander, I assure you, we'll make sure to correct our mistake and give you a satisfactory report," Evead, the captain, shouted with confidence.
Zennad glanced at him and snorted before storming out of the basement.
With his departure, all the Necoris breathed a sigh of relief. Under Zennad's suppression, each of them felt as though a claw had gripped their necks.
Turning to his men, Evead wore a solemn expression and commanded, "We attack tonight. We kill everything and anyone in our path. Tonight, we must capture all the adventurers."
Now that their commander had arrived, they threw caution to the wind and planned to launch a full-scale assault.
As for the possibility of being discovered by the city lord, they didn't care. Dongping was going to be destroyed anyway, so why should they care?
While the Necoris were planning their full assault, the Celestial Heavenly Store was not idle.
Previously, they had recruited dozens of blacksmiths to work for them, and now, the results were in.
In the lobby, all the adventurers gathered with solemn expressions on their faces.
"Why do you think they summoned us?" a bald young man asked in a low voice, looking at his captain.
"How would I know?" The captain, a well-built middle-aged man, rolled his eyes.
This was a new recruit to their team and had yet to understand how adventuring worked.
Though he did not voice his concerns like the rookie, he was curious but controlled his impulse to start talking with other team captains.
It wasn't just him; everyone was curious. But then, they knew how unfathomable the store was and thus reined in their curiosity.
A moment later, the door leading to the backyard opened, and Zimo stepped out with three men.
"Leader…" All the adventurers called out, paying their respects with a deep bow.
"I've told you I'm not the leader… Anyway, let's get down to business," Zimo began with a serious expression.
"You're all under attack because you're associated with the store. Therefore, our leader has decided to give you a helping hand in this chaotic time."
The three men behind him stepped forward and waved their hands, and heaps of weapons dropped to the ground.
