Chapter 196 196: Attack

Your journey continues with empire

As soon as they entered the base, team members in the yard, busy with various training exercises, quickly gathered around them, their faces filled with concern. "Captain Liu, are you alright?" one of them asked.

Liu Junyi blushed, looking slightly downward, but Ye Fei stepped in with a reassuring smile. "Nothing serious. We encountered a powerful opponent. My aunt exerted a bit too much of her internal energy, so I'm helping her to her room to rest."

The team members instantly parted to let them through, deeply moved by Liu Junyi's bravery. Her slight blush they mistook for embarrassment over her injury, only intensifying their respect and admiration for her.

Once Ye Fei had helped her inside, he closed the door, guided her to the sofa, and noticed a hint of sadness in her expression. Concerned, he gently asked, "What's wrong? Are you uncomfortable?"

"No," she said, warmed by his care. Any lingering frustration she'd felt earlier quickly faded. "I'm just worried about the upcoming operation. I don't know if I'll have fully recovered by then."

Seeing her downcast look, Ye Fei chuckled, touching her nose lightly. "Silly girl, what are you worrying about?"

"You're the silly one!" she replied, pouting in mock annoyance. Despite being thirty, her childlike gesture didn't seem out of place, only adding to her charm.

"Little fool," he said with a playful smile. "Look what I have for you." He took a small purple pill from his storage space and held it up to her lips.

She opened her mouth just enough for him to place the pill inside. It dissolved almost instantly, turning into a cool liquid that flowed down her throat and quickly transformed into a warm, soothing energy coursing through her entire body. Within moments, her strength returned, and even her internal power felt slightly stronger.

In amazement, Liu Junyi moved her arms and legs. Realizing the pill's potency, she gave Ye Fei's waist a playful pinch. "How long have you had these? Why didn't you give me one sooner?"

Ye Fei laughed, replying, "I did—who's the one who forgot all about them?"

"Well, you could've reminded me!" she teased, pinching his waist a little harder to show her "displeasure."

He took her hand, pulling her gently into his arms. "Besides, don't you see how well the timing worked?"

She paused, her brow furrowing slightly. "What do you mean, 'good effect'? Everyone else will think I was seriously hurt."

"That's just it," he replied, smiling. "They believe Captain Liu put herself in harm's way for them. They respect you more than ever."

Liu Junyi paused, taken aback by his words. She'd felt a hint of anger earlier, but his explanation softened her immediately. Still, she bit him lightly on the chest and said, "You scheming little rascal! Someday you'll sell me out, and I'll be there happily counting the money!"

Ye Fei pulled her close, holding her gently but firmly. "I'd sell myself before I'd ever sell you," he said quietly.

After a long moment, Ye Fei left Liu Junyi's room, closing the door softly behind him, only to be met by Zhang Qiang and a group of other team members who crowded around him with concerned expressions.

"Xiaoman, how is Captain Liu?" Zhang Qiang asked.

Ye Fei smiled and reassured them, "She's alright, just a bit exhausted. Some rest will set her right." In fact, he wasn't exaggerating; Liu Junyi had been moved by his words and, though they didn't have much time alone, he'd stayed with her for a while, comforting her.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

The men sighed in relief, visibly reassured. Ye Fei's plan had indeed worked: the respect and admiration the team felt for Liu Junyi had only grown. Now, beyond their sense of duty, they seemed ready to do anything for her.

The days passed quickly, and on the morning of the third day, the team moved out as planned. Entering the forest, they divided into three separate groups—two advancing on the sides, and one in the middle that paused for half an hour before continuing. Ye Fei and Liu Junyi had set out ahead of the main force to scout the pre-planned route carefully, mindful of possible ambushes.

They proceeded cautiously, advancing only about ten kilometers into the forest before spotting the first traces of the enemy. After silently taking out a few scattered sentries, Ye Fei lifted Liu Junyi and quickly carried her to the top of a towering tree. Looking down, he felt a cold chill at the sight below.

Along both sides of the team's chosen path, more than ten thousand enemy fighters lay in wait, armed with powerful submachine guns and equipped with grenades, smoke bombs, and other deadly weapons. A sense of relief washed over Ye Fei. Had he not discovered their plan first, the action team would have walked straight into an almost inescapable trap.

Beside him, Liu Junyi observed the soldiers below, impressed. The enemy fighters were silent and well-disciplined, a testament to the ability of the person who had assembled and trained them.

With a quick nod to Liu Junyi, Ye Fei made a silent signal for her to stay in the tree while he flew back to intercept the advancing action team. After sharing the enemy's position and relaying his instructions, he advised them to prepare to encircle the enemy while leaving the main offensive to him.

As for the detailed strategy, he left it to the more experienced team leaders, who knew best how to coordinate a full-scale operation.

With everything in place, Ye Fei returned to the tree where Liu Junyi was waiting. They exchanged a final look of determination and quietly turned their attention back to the operation, each mentally preparing for the fierce confrontation that lay ahead.
